ANIKA NILLES: It has been a while that I posted something. Felt a bit unmotivated the last days on social media. But anyways, here is something I‘d like to share with you.
Not many drummers talking about this topic BUT speaking a rhythm out loud while playing absolutely helps to improve on timing and to really let go of thinking about what to play! It‘s super helpful to reach this stage of being free and „just“ play. If you want to improve on timing this is an eye opener! So here’s a thing: speak out loud a clave pattern to what ever you play... can be a simple paradiddle on the pad or a groove on the kit or what ever you want!..do it SLOW and see how your body reacts!

ANIKA NILLES: Вот кое-что, чем я хотела бы с тобой поделиться. Не так много барабанщиков говорят про это, но произносить ритм вслух во время игры очень помогает улучшить "чувство времени"! Это очень полезно, чтобы стать свободным и "просто" играть.

Эта запись признается лучшей в карьере Хэнка Мобли, саксофониста, которого сейчас критики называют незаслуженно недооцененным. Для него «Soul Station» — вершина творчества, то, чем являлись альбомы «Saxophone Colossus» для Роллинса и «Giant Steps» для Колтрейна.
Обратимся к биографии «чемпиона среди тенор-саксофонистов в среднем весе»: к 1960 году Хэнк уже записал более десяти альбомов в качестве лидера, был востребован на «Blue Note Records» в качестве сайдмена, успел отбыть короткое тюремное заключение и с переменным успехом побороться с вредными привычками. К моменту записи «Soul Station» он был состоявшимся музыкантом, со всеми участниками ансамбля Хэнк много играл и репетировал.
Среди шести композиций мы находим два очень удачно подобранных стандарта и четыре пьесы авторства самого Хэнка Мобли. Легкость и свежесть, которые всегда отличали звук саксофониста, дополняются игрой ритм-секции, которая состоит из лучших музыкантов того времени.

This recording is recognized as the best of the career of Hank Mobley, a saxophonist who critics now call undeservedly underappreciated. For him, Soul Station is the pinnacle of creativity, what Saxophone Colossus was for Rollins and Giant Steps was for Coltrane.
To review the biography of the "middleweight tenor saxophone champion": by 1960 Hank had already recorded more than ten albums as a leader, had been in demand on Blue Note Records as a sideman, had served a brief stint in prison and had struggled with bad habits with mixed success. By the time he recorded "Soul Station" he was an established musician, and with all the members of the ensemble Hank played and rehearsed a lot.
Among the six compositions we find two very well chosen standards and four pieces by Hank Mobley himself. The lightness and freshness that always distinguished the saxophonist's sound is complemented by the play of the rhythm section, which consists of the best musicians of the time.
"Soul Station" is a classic for Blue Note Records that we can still appreciate and listen to fifty years later.
